Salt Bond Silicone Adhesive – Preparation & Application Instructions
Surface Preparation
- Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, oil, loose particles, and contaminants. Proper surface preparation is essential for maximum bond strength.
- Remove any old adhesive, silicone, or debris from the salt bricks and fixing surface.
- If bonding to smooth surfaces such as metal, glass, or sealed timber, lightly abrading the surface can improve adhesion.
- Allow any cleaning solvents to fully evaporate before applying the adhesive.
Application
- Insert the Salt Bond cartridge into a standard sealant gun.
- Cut the nozzle to the desired bead size.
- Apply a continuous bead of Salt Bond to the rear or edges of the Himalayan salt brick.
- Position the brick immediately and press firmly into place.
- Slightly twist or move the brick during installation to ensure full contact between surfaces.
- Remove any excess adhesive before it cures.
Working Time
- Skin formation typically begins within 10–30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity.
- Adjustments should be made before a surface skin forms.
Curing Time
- Initial hold: approximately 24 hours.
- Full cure: typically 48–72 hours, depending on bead thickness, temperature, and humidity.
- Avoid excessive movement or loading of the installation until fully cured.
Recommended Installation Method
For larger salt walls, Salt Bond should be used in conjunction with the Himalayan Salt Creation mechanical fixing system (grooved bricks, aluminium support bars, and fixing keys). This creates an extremely solid and secure installation while reducing reliance on adhesive alone.
